In the early morning of Wednesday 31st the Illushin with our friends landed in Punta Arena. With that, the circle is complete. Now they prepare for the last night with the gang, the last night of the year, and what marks the end of a fantastic journey.
They should spend the evening with one (if not the) most accomplished Polar explorers of our time, Børge Ousland. Throw in the possibility of a few Brits and it is hard to imagine the range of topics being particularly broad.
Early tomorrow (Thursday) morning Mads, Rune and Morten will head home, and as far as we know they will land at Gardermoen Friday 2nd January with Air France Flight AF2374 at 1455.
Christian follows the same route some days later (the lad has to tidy up…)
To sum up, they have done one of the most remarkable expeditions ever. They set a new record on the Messner route, they are the fastest ever from outside the Antarctic continent and to the South Pole, and they have the highest km per day of any expedition an any route at any time. For being just amateurs who love skiing, and on Monday head back to the office they left a mere 6 weeks ago.
A big thank you goes to everybody who have contributed, to their families who have been large enough to let them do something at time, mind and ego consuming as gunning for the South Pole.
And finally a BIG thanks to all those who have contributed to their Charity. Are you impressed? Well, it is not too late to chip in.
