Friday 22nd November, Ronne Ice Shelf: Late in the afternoon Roland, his sledge and skis were loaded into the Twin Otter. They took off, and after a sweep over Union Glacier flew the 420km or so out to the Ronne Ice Shelf. After unloading and readying his gear for the last time, the Twin Otter took off and left.
Roland reported very enthusiastically that he felt very good and very happy. It was supremely beautiful with great weather and just a slight breeze.
He is well outside the Antarctic continent, actually more that 20km. He pitched his tent, tested the skis and sledge only to conclude that it was no lighter than during the runs at Union Glacier. Then he took to the tent before going off tomorrow morning. He is planning very easy, short stints the first couple of days to get the body into labour modus.
